Lahore: Millat Tractors Limited has inaugurated a new production line dedicated to supplying tractors to Mexico, marking a major stride in strengthening Pakistan’s industrial base and boosting the country’s export capacity. The initiative is seen as a milestone in positioning Pakistan’s agricultural machinery sector as a competitive player in global markets.
The inauguration ceremony, held in Lahore, was attended by Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary, as the Chief Guest. Reflecting on his early career at Millat Tractors between 1982 and 1984, the Minister described the event as a personal homecoming. Prof. Iqbal praised the company’s achievement of exporting 3,600 tractors annually—valued at $20 million—to markets in Africa and Latin America. He expressed confidence in Millat Tractors’ ability to expand further and contribute toward the government’s ambitious target of $1 billion in exports.
Reiterating the government’s commitment under the URAAN Pakistan initiative, the Minister stressed the importance of food security and the shift toward an export-led growth model. He highlighted farm mechanization as a critical driver of farmer empowerment, food self-sufficiency, and rural development. Prof. Iqbal further emphasized that the Ministry of Planning will continue to champion the private sector, particularly industries driving export growth. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to enforce an “export emergency” and collaborate closely with industry to achieve the Prime Minister’s vision of a self-reliant, export-oriented Pakistan.
