ABSTRACT
Foundry is the main manufacturing methods for producing castings which are the basic material for any type
of production. The casting obtained from the foundries are fed through various machining and manufacturing process for producing different type of components needed for many type Automobile, Industrial, Consumable and commercial products. It is an ancient manufacturing process invented by our ancestors and is in nature human by birth itself from Harrappa and mohanzathara Civilization days, say before 3000years. During foundry process A by product called waste sand is obtained. It comes as waste after moulded component is removed from the sand moulds.
INTRODUCTION
The foundries or moulding industries use foundry sand in clean, uniform sized, high quality silica sand is suitable to form a mould for casting of ferrous & non-ferrous metals. Here the sodium silicate is added with sand widely used for preparing moulding sand because of obtaining high productivity in moulding practices, good size accuracy of casting, rich material source, and simple process equipment. Recovering fine sand from the used polluted sand by reclamation process is being added to the foundry during the disposal of used sand process. But, at the same time reclamation of used sand with sodium silicate is a problem because spoiled used sand which creates environmental problems. Procurement cost of the raw sand and transportation costs are higher now a day, hence we need this reclamation process in foundry whether it is small, medium or large scale. Used foundry sand consists of silica sand, coated with a thin film of burnt carbon, residual binder and dust.
